Fighting Against Obesity

America, in general, has a major obesity problem due to stressful jobs or home environments, an abundance of fast food restaurants, processed foods, and just pure laziness. As many of you know being overweight only hurts you and those around you and it is time to do something about it.

What are some things that can happen to you if you are overweight or obese?

Well, there are obviously many health related issues such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, sleep apnea, joint issues, etc. Obesity also causes your heart to have to work harder, which makes it more difficult to breathe and causes simple tasks like getting out of bed or out of a chair, walking across the room, etc. seem like a major task. Most people that are obese or overweight are often depressed and don’t want to go anywhere or do anything, which only causes the weight to keep piling on.

How can I help myself if I’m struggling with obesity?

There are several things that you can do, but it’s all going to start by getting in the right “head space.” You have to decide for yourself that you will no longer tolerate looking and feeling the way you do. You have to put your foot down and KNOW that you can do it, no matter how much work it is or how long it takes. Once you get your head right, then you need to start eating the right kinds of foods and the right amount of food. Also, getting proper supplementation will help a great deal with this process. Once we get your mindset right and your nutrition dialed in, then we can start working on your fitness. Daily exercise is a must – even if it’s just a 30 minute walk every day. The key is to get moving! As you get stronger and the pounds start to come off, you will have more energy and be able to do more and more. Don’t overdo it at first and don’t set unrealistic goals.

What should I eat?

We actually have a very detailed blueprint that we give our clients that break down exactly what foods you should eat and which foods you should avoid. It also will tell you how much you should eat for your current weight and tell you when to eat what. But for this blog, I will just give you a couple pointers. Bake your food instead of frying it. Eat every 2.5 – 3 hours, so 5 meals a day. Eat lots of veggies, especially the green ones. If you have a major sweet tooth, try to find healthy substitutes (yes they are out there!). Stay away from fast food and processed foods. Last, but not least, portion control!!
